Roblox Popularity Among Children

Roblox is an online gaming platform and virtual-world ecosystem owned by the owned by Roblox Corporation. The company estimates that the platform currently has about 80-110 million daily users. 

Roblox allows users to play and create games, socialize, and spend its own digital currency, known as Robux, to purchase upgrades and in-game items. Players can create their own games, explore different “experiences”, build customized avatars, and chat with other users. 

A significant portion of the tens of millions of daily users on Roblox are children under 13 years old. For many of these younger users, Roblox functions like a social network for kids, allowing them to add friends, join group chats, create private servers, or engage in private chats. 

Roblox Child Sexual Exploitation Lawsuits

Some of the lawsuits filed against Roblox have alleged that pedophiles and sexual predators have used the platform to target children. 

According to these lawsuits, Roblox marketed its platform to parents as a safe digital environment for kids. The state attorneys general of Kentucky, Louisiana, and Texas have also filed lawsuits against Roblox. Roblox Video Game Addiction Lawsuits

In addition to the sexual exploitation, grooming, and sexual assault lawsuits against Roblox, the company is also facing allegations that the gaming platform is deliberately designed to cause video game addition in children. 

According to these lawsuits, Roblox was deliberately designed with features such as  intermittent rewards and loot-box mechanics. These features were intended to exploit the psychology of children, leading them to use the platform compulsively and increasing their risk of anxiety, depression, or other emotional problems. 

By targeting younger gamers, the Roblox addition lawsuits allege that not only do these mechanisms lead children to use the platform compulsively, but also pushes them into spending more money on Roblox through the use of microtransactions and other in-game purchases. 

Similar video game addiction lawsuits have also been filed against the owners of Fortnite and Minecraft.
