Ozempic, Wegovy Linked to Vision Loss & Blindness Risk

Patients who used Ozempic or Wegovy (semaglutide) to treat type 2 diabetes may be up to eight times more likely to develop vision loss or blindness from an eye condition known as NAION, according to the results of a recent study.
If you or a loved one used Ozempic or Wegovy to treat diabetes symptoms and have experienced loss of vision, blindness, or other eye problems, you may qualify to file a lawsuit and receive compensation.

Study: Ozempic, Wegovy Linked to Increased NAION Risk
According to a study published in July 2024 by JAMA Ophthalmology, diabetes patients treated with Ozempic or Wegovy face an increased risk of developing an eye condition that can lead to vision problems or blindness. This condition, known as nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, or NAION, is also sometimes also referred to as an eye stroke.
NAION occurs when blood flow to the optic nerve is disrupted, leading to the sudden and painless loss of vision in one or both eyes. If the disruption in blood flow is severe or long-lasting, it can lead to permanent vision loss or blindness.
According to the JAMA study, Ozempic and Wegovy users with diabetes are four times more likely to be diagnosed with NAION. Researchers found that for patients with obesity, the risk of vision loss or blindness from NAION increased to eight times more likely than normal.
Wegovy Vision Loss & Ozempic Blindness Lawsuits
The first Wegovy and Ozempic lawsuits involving blindness and vision loss caused by these drugs were filed in the Spring of 2025. Since then, even more patients with eye problems potentially caused by NAION from Ozempic or Wegovy have come forward to take potential legal action.
Patients who developed serious vision loss or blindness from NAION after using Ozempic or Wegovy may be eligible to file a lawsuit against the manufacturers of these drugs and receive compensation for their eye condition.
