As of March 2026, the manufacturers of Depo-Provera are facing nearly 3,100 lawsuits filed by women who developed meningioma brain tumors after using the birth control shot.
These lawsuits include about 1,700 claims that were consolidated in a federal multidistrict litigation in Florida, a class action lawsuit filed last year, as well as hundreds of other Depo-Provera lawsuits that have been filed in state courts across the U.S.
If you or a loved one used the Depo shot for at least one year and were diagnosed with a brain tumor, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit and receive compensation.

Hundreds of Depo Shot Lawsuits Against Pfizer
The first lawsuit involving the link between Depo-Provera and meningioma was filed in October 2024 by a woman who developed a brain tumor after using the birth control shot.
Meningioma is a type of benign, or non-cancerous, tumor that can form around the brain. Although not cancerous, meningioma tumors can cause side effects that may require brain surgery or other treatments.
Since the first case was filed, hundreds of women have also filed lawsuits against Pfizer, the manufacturer of Depo-Provera, after they developed meningioma tumors following their use of the birth control shot.
As of January 2026, more than 1,400 total Depo-Provera lawsuits involving meningioma brain tumors had been filed against Pfizer. As of March 2026, that number has grown to nearly 3,100 lawsuits.
These lawsuits have alleged that the drugmaker failed to properly warn women and their doctors about the risk of developing meningioma from using the Depo shot.
Legal experts believe that because of the widespread use of Depo-Provera and the side effects linked to the birth control shot, somewhere between 5,000 to as many as 10,000 lawsuits could eventually be filed against Pfizer.
Studies Link Depo Shot to Increased Brain Tumors Risk
Concerns about the health risks of using Depo-Provera first arose after a 2024 study published by the British Medical Journal found that the birth control shot was linked to an increased risk of brain tumors.
According to the BMJ study, women who used Depo-Provera were nearly six times more likely to have undergone surgery for meningioma tumors than women who had never used these injections.
A second study, published in 2025 by the medical journal Expert Opinion on Drug Safety, found that women who used Depo-Provera face a “significantly higher risk” of developing brain tumors.
The study found that Depo-Provera users were about 350% more likely to be diagnosed with meningioma than women who had only been treated with birth control pills.
Who Is Eligible to File a Depo-Provera Claim?
Together, these two studies prompted serious concerns about the link between Depo-Provera and brain tumors, and raised serious questions among patients about whether they may qualify to file a lawsuit against the makers of the Depo shot.
In order to file a lawsuit, potential plaintiffs must meet all of the following conditions:
- Used Depo Provera, Depo SubQ Provera 104, or “authorized generic” versions of the birth control shot;
- Were treated with the Depo shot for at least one year, typically meaning four injections or more;
- Were diagnosed with cerebral meningioma brain tumors.
Women who meet all of the above criteria may be eligible file a lawsuit against the manufacturers of the Depo shot and receive compensation.
