A lawsuit filed by a Minnesota man who was diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer caused by exposure to asbestos fibres that were allegedly brought home on his father’s clothing is scheduled to begin trial in May. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Gene “Randy” Backe, who was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2018 and later died from the disease. (more…)
The Food and Drug Administration has received thousands of reports of complications linked to the Paragard copper IUD, including nearly 2,000 reports that were deemed “serious”. Eisai, Inc. and Arena Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturers of the weight loss drug Belviq (lorcaserin) are facing at least a dozen lawsuits that have been filed nationwide by patients who used the medication and were diagnosed with cancer. In addition to these lawsuits, the companies are also facing a class action lawsuit filed on behalf of Belviq users with cancer. (more…)
More than 700 lawsuits have been filed against the manufacturers of Zantac and ranitidine by patients diagnosed with cancer, according to court documents that were recently filed by lawyers involved in the litigation. The two heartburn drugs were recalled by the FDA in 2020 after researchers found that they were contaminated with a chemical linked to an increased cancer risk. (more…)
At least 90 lawsuits have been filed against Janssen and Johnson & Johnson by patients who used the interstitial cystitis drug Elmiron (pentosan polysulfate sodium), lawyers for these plaintiffs have announced. The lawsuits allege that Elmiron users are at risk of developing serious and permanent eye damage caused by the toxicity of the bladder medication. (more…)
The first trial involving allegations that defects with 3M’s Combat Arms military earplugs caused hearing damage among soldiers and veterans began in Florida earlier this week. The trial is the first bellwether case out of roughly 230,000 lawsuits against 3M that were consolidated in a multidistrict litigation (MDL) in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida. Dozens of patients who developed cancer after using the heartburn drugs Zantac or ranitidine will have their cases heard in California state court, a Florida federal judge has ruled. The lawsuits were filed by 41 Zantac or ranitidine users against pharmaceutical companies that manufactured the heartburn drugs or pharmacy chains where the drugs were sold. (more…)

The first lawsuits against 3M alleging that the company’s Combat Arms earplugs caused hearing loss in veterans are scheduled to go to trial next month in Florida. The lawsuits are among the more than 200,000 lawsuits that have been filed against 3M over the company’s earplugs, making the case the largest mass tort litigation in history. (more…)
