FDA warns Juul over illegal e-cigarettes marketing

A U.S. House of Representatives committee says that Juul broke the law by illegally marketing its e-cigarettes as a safe alternative to tobacco cigarettes that could help smokers quit. The committee’s chairman called on the Food and Drug Administration to take “appropriate enforcement action” against Juul over the company’s illegal marketing practices. (more…)

3M faces nearly 1,000 lawsuits over defective military earplugs

Nearly 1,000 veterans of the U.S. armed forces have filed lawsuits against 3M over the company’s defective Combat Arms earplugs. The lawsuits allege that 3M’s military ear plugs were defectively designed, causing service members who used this product in combat to suffer hearing loss, hearing damage, or tinnitus. (more…)

Illinois officials report first death from respiratory illness linked to e-cigarettes

Officials in Illinois report that a person who was diagnosed with a severe lung illness after using e-cigarettes has died. The death is believed to be the first that has been linked to a mysterious lung illness reported across several states among patients who used e-cigarettes. (more…)

Subsys fentanyl spray manufacturer Insys Therapeutics files for bankruptcy

Insys Therapeutics – the manufacturer of the fentanyl spray Subsys – has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Insys’s bankruptcy filing came just days after the company was forced to pay $225 million to settle criminal and civil complaints by the federal government over allegations that Insys had illegally marketed Subsys to doctors and patients. Stroke victim files California lawsuit against Juul over e-cigarette marketing to teens

A Connecticut man who suffered a massive stroke after becoming addicted to Juul e-cigarettes has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the vaping device. Maxwell Berger filed a lawsuit against Juul Labs in California over allegations that the company hid the dangers of Juul from consumers, and illegally marketed the product to consumers under the age of 26. Hundreds of lawsuits filed over cardiovascular injuries linked to Onglyza & Kombiglyze

Bristol-Myers Squibb is facing nearly 300 lawsuits in Kentucky over allegations that the diabetes drugs Onglyza and Kombiglyze XR may increase the risk of congestive heart failure and other cardiovascular side effects. The lawsuits were originally consolidated as part of a multidistrict litigation (MDL) in the District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky in 2018. (more…)

Popular Heartburn Drugs Linked to Increased Risk of Kidney Disease

Patients who use a class of heartburn medications known as proton pump inhibitors may face an increased risk of chronic kidney disease, according to a 2017 study. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University found that patients taking PPIs are 20 to 50% more likely to develop kidney disease that those who did not use the heartburn drugs. (more…)
