CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, and other pharmacy chains recall Zantac and ranitidine over cancer concerns

Several national pharmacy chains pulled Zantac from stores over concerns the heartburn drug and its generic equivalent, ranitidine, may cause cancer. CVS, Target, Walgreens, Walmart, and other pharmacies voluntarily recalled Zantac and ranitidine after an FDA warning that they were contaminated with a chemical that could increase the risk of cancer for patients who use the drugs. Sanofi recalls Zantac OTC due to chemical contamination that may cause cancer

Sanofi has announced that it is recalling the popular heartburn drug Zantac OTC. The drugmaker made the announcement following tests that found that Zantac was contaminated with a chemical impurity that can increase the risk of cancer. (more…)

Zantac and ranitidine contaminated with cancer-causing chemical, FDA says

An investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has found that the heartburn drug Zantac and some generic versions of the drug are contaminated with a chemical that may cause cancer.
